Call for Proposals - Site-Specific Works

We invite artists to submit proposals for large-scale site-specific installations. The installation will be honored at the Encompass 2018 reception on Saturday, March 3.

All proposed works should:
- Achieve significant visual impact
- Contribute to the beauty of the Harwood front lawn
- Account for safe and secure construction
- Engage visitors at Harwood (an installation that people can go inside or one that is highly interactive)
- Relate to the Encompass 2018 theme of "Dream Spaces"

Harwood Art Center will award an honorarium up to $5,000 (depending on proposed budget) to the selected artist(s). apply now >

Youth Arts Teaching Positions (2017)

Harwood is looking for talented individuals with innovative curricula that integrate the arts with other areas of study such as science, humanities, engineering, technology and/or math to join our Youth Arts Teaching Artist Corps in both performing and visual arts for youth ages 6 - 14. Our Youth Arts Education Programs include Summer Art Camp, Creative Roots Community Outreach and Art & Sol After School Creativity Workshops. All programs offer in-depth skill building as well as opportunities for individual and collaborative creative exploration.

Art School Teaching Positions (Rolling)

We invite teaching artists in all media to apply for a position in our Art School program for adults and teens. Art School provides students the opportunity to develop and refine their creative skills in a focused environment, with the support of excellent instructors. Classes run in the Fall and Spring, and they vary in subject matter and structure - from weekly evening sessions to one-off weekend workshops.

Kris Mills

Former Studio Artist


I was in Harwood’s very first show called Road To Chaos, organized by Jeff Kruger. My dog, Micro, was also in that show eating 30 hot dogs in a performance piece by Bryan Konefsky. I had two studios at two different times. The most recemt, I used the studio to do serigraphy with my collaborative friend Tom Loeb. LThe first time, I used the studio to make sculpture. Harwood has given me many opportunities to show my own art and curate shows about the work my community, Albuquerque makes.  My dog Pablo and I are in and out of Harwood’s doors a lot because I now live in the neighborhood.
