Women and Creativity | Harwood Art Center

Women & Creativity

Women & Creativity is an annual, month-long series of events that celebrates women’s creativity and entrepreneurship across the disciplines; this year. Based in Albuquerque, NM, Women & Creativity typically works in collaboration with over 35 local and regional partners. Harwood is proud to be a presenting partner with Artful Life and Edible.

Events take place during the month of March – to coincide with Women’s History Month – in theatres, galleries, performance spaces, retail businesses, museums, parks, neighborhoods, and other venues throughout New Mexico.  Events include presentations, performances, art exhibitions/installations, workshops, classes, cinema, demonstrations and interactive events.

The programming areas for Women & Creativity are broad and inclusive, encompassing arts, culture, education, leadership, health, environment, social justice, entrepreneurship, retail, tourism and more. The series appeals to groups of all ages and backgrounds and varies widely in terms of content, format, location, admission fees and times of day.

HARWOOD STORIES

SUZANNE SBARGE
SUZANNE SBARGE

Former Director of Harwood

When I started the building was primarily a studio center for artists with very little public programming. The only staff members were the Building Manager Marshall Kovitz and me, and we were both part-time. I worked to expand the reach of Harwood through lots more exhibitions, classes and events, and the Harwood Summer Arts Camp. I focused on community involvement and marketing, which transformed Harwood from a mostly quiet studio center into a public venue that was always buzzing with activity.

I am grateful to the Harwood for launching my career in arts administration over 20 years ago and for serving as the umbrella for 516 ARTS in our first year.
